He hated Thatcherism when it was unfashionable and dangerous to do so - and continued to do so, throughout a career of no compromises.

Films at Kilburn Festival 2009:: Making waves in Kilburn :: 3-12 July 2009

The London Irish Film Club has teamed up with the Kilburn Festival to bring a very special mix of Irish film to the Tricycle Cinema over the 3rd-12th July. It is fitting that this festival should take place on the Kilburn High Rd, a place of great significance in the history of London’s Irish community.

The programme will include two exclusive first UK screenings, ‘Kisses’ and ‘A Film with Me in it’. We are also delighted to deliver a retrospective on the director Bob Quinn, including ‘Emigrant Dance’, documenting the Galtymore Dance Hall in Cricklewood, and ‘Vox Humana’, his latest offering.

Other local venues will host Latin American films, Ethiopian films, and a Kilburn youth film-making contest, climaxing back at the Tricycle on 12th July with the ‘Sunday Movie Brunch’ - free croissants and short films by top local film-makers.

The Guinness Storehouse

One of Dublin’s most popular tourist attractions is the famous Guinness Storehouse. Originally built in 1904 to accommodate the Guinness fermentation process, it did so until 1988, but by November 2000 it had opened its doors to millions of visitors interested in seeing how the famous black drink is made.

About That Local Rivalry. by kevin raymond

There are days kids remember, like that Guy's in November
Who made plans for a hell of a bang
On said day in this instance, Cathedral team played St Vincent's
So what follows are memories from then.

T'would have been sixty three when the St Vincent's team
Went to play in The Seven-a-Side Cup
With feint hopes as outsiders, like Dave’s v Goliath?
Yes, an upset they caused and that's fact.

Upon getting changed and running out to play games
Teams confidence seemed to be high
As the sight of green pitches with manicured cream strips
Sparkled beneath summer sky.
