Enforced Abstinence. By Kevin Raymond

Da straightened up his tie
His brylcreemed hair did shine
His shoes gleamed glass like courtesy of Kiwi
He kissed me ma upon her cheek
Looked down with some distain on me
As the scruffy red haired freckled face of evil!

“Ah Maura (Mary?) must I take that child
The little devils way too wild
Sure a man would need have eyes in the back of his head
I’m off to Wembley for the day
Where we’ve tickets for The Gaelic Games
And I’m expected to wet nurse that little eejits arse as well”

But me ma would not be moved
“That child is going out with you

First Impressions, Summer 1963. by Kevin Raymond

Exhausted limbs lay spread on grass

Both from the choir school and ours

As the battle fought extracted heavy toll

One never knows the kind of feeling

Until the senses tired and reeling

Find that extra yard from deep inside the soul.

We ached like hell they did as well

But stuck it out to tell this tale

Of that summer day we clashed when in our youth

The smell of freshly mown green grass

Where flowers bloomed in Battersea Park

Beside the fountains, that caressed both teams with spume.

We’d heard them sing in choir at mass

Island Idyll Welcomes Inis Mor Walkers

In Praise Of Older Women! By Kevin Raymond

With the season of goodwill approaching
I fondly think back to Christmas's past
When jaws and a few ribs were broken
In brilla bralla's between uncles and aunts.

See me aunties were quite fearless fighters
I suppose that it's there in ones genes
The rear ups and tear ups real frighteners
X certificate some scenes I've seen.

I remember once thinking this games not for mois
As another row reared up and ran
A quite sensitive soul I was not one of those
Out to conquer the world with two hands.

Mates said:"Kevin that aunt of yours frightens me
