We have some superb storytelling from four of Ireland's best-known raconteurs of the oral tradition on May 19th and the opportunity to learn how to do it on May 20th in a storytelling workshop.

Shonaleigh, Nick Hennessy, Amy Douglas and Simon Heywood present The Twisting Field is an evening of music and storytelling based on a nineteenth century folktale about one of Ireland’s greatest heroes, Lugh Lamfhota. Four of the UK’s most accomplished storytellers bring an inspiring new piece of storytelling and weave the telling of the atmospheric tale in between nine original songs, with music and lyrics composed by one of the storytellers, Simon Heywood. The story is accompanied with music on guitar and harp. The music blends the best traditions of folk music with a fresh, contemporary approach.

Being Irish - Personal Reflections on Irish Identity

BEING IRISH, the book, is an exploration of Irish identity in the shifting landscape of Irish life today both at home and abroad.
The aim of the book is give expression to that special something that is (more or less) instantly recognisable as Irish, to record for the present and future genarations the rich tapestry that is Irish identity and to initiate a debate among the Irish about what being Irish means to us.
In the book, 100 contributors tell their story of what being Irish meant to them. On this website you can read excerpts from some of them so that you can get some idea of the courage, commitment and quality of the writers.
So this web site is an invitation to you to write your own article and get your particular point of view across. We will post excerpts from them on the web site and, if the debate is successful, we may publish a second volume of BEING IRISH taken from the best of your contributions.
